Ruth Anna

Anna Ruth (*1994) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the drawing studio of Jiří Petrbok and Martin Gerboc. During her studies she spent residencies in Poland and Indonesia. From drawing, which she originally trained in, she moved on to other means of expression. She works mainly in painting, but also in site-specific installation, which places her canvases within the context of an entire scenographically conceived environment. She also experiments with joining painting to music, which she calls a soundtrack to her visual work. Her practice is inspired by nature, by the way indigenous peoples see the world, by personal mythology, the collective unconscious and blood memory. Among other materials, she paints with iron oxide — rust — which speaks of earthiness and transience, but also of a process of constant transformation. Her work is held in many Czech and international collections. She exhibits regularly in the Czech Republic, at Karpuchina Gallery and BOLD Gallery among others, as well as abroad.
