Krňanský David

David Krňanský (*1987) studied in Jiří Kovanda's studio at UJEP in Ústí nad Labem and then in the studio of Jiří Černický and Marek Meduna at UMPRUM in Prague. While still a student, he and his classmates founded the artist group BHG (Black Hole Generation), which took a critical stance towards the contemporary art scene. He works mainly in painting. His practice explores both the magic of the colour spectrum and the way that breadth of colour disappears in basic black-and-white resolution — all of it in dialogue with geometric abstraction and the principles of constructivism. He builds his colour canvases not only with acrylics, but also with oil pastels and graffiti sprays. He is also concerned with the theme of crisis. His work has been shown at Futura, Berlínský model, Hunt Kastner, Galerie města Plzně and Dům umění in Brno, as well as at many institutions abroad.
