Dvořák Filip

Filip Dvořák (*1990) studied at UMPRUM in Prague in the painting studio of Jiří Černický and Marek Meduna. During his studies he spent a placement at the School of Art in Glasgow. He is a laureate of the Critics' Prize for Young Painting and of the ESSL Art Award CEE. Although he trained as a painter, he is unafraid of other materials. He uses his hands not only for brush and paint, but also for carving wood, bending metal and working with polystyrene and timber. He is fascinated by detail, whether natural or architectural. He is not afraid to revisit the themes of ornament and of the forms of the forest and the landscape — from a different angle than art history has taken before. His work brings together different media and techniques as he looks for ways to make painting matter in the contemporary world. He also makes collages, assemblages, objects and video projections, and stages events in public space. Many of his works he calls object-paintings. He exhibits in the Czech Republic and abroad, and his work is held in many significant collections.
