Limbourg Laura

Laura Limbourg (*1996) was born in Belgium. She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studios of Martin Mainer and Josef Bolf, and during her studies took up residencies in Taiwan and the USA. In 2020 she won the Critics' Prize for Young Painting. After graduating she moved to the United Kingdom, where she studied at the Ruskin School of Art in Oxford. In 2026 she was named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. She paints directly onto unprimed canvases, without preparatory sketches. She likes to work with thinned acrylics, oil pastels and watercolours, whose bleeding and merging release her scenes from literal description. Her paintings are a highly personal account of distant lands, exotic subjects and complex inner themes. On her canvases we encounter plants and animals of the jungle, religious and cultural figurines, elements of historical Japanese painting and vases inspired by antique porcelain. She has exhibited across Europe, in Taiwan and in the USA.
