Kotrba Tadeáš

Tadeáš Kotrba (*1986) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, first printmaking and then painting. During his studies he spent a placement at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. His work interweaves the approaches of drawing and painting. He also often combines fields of colour with passages where he lets the untreated surface of the canvas speak for itself. Two worlds meet in these works. The first is real, and depicted very realistically: the world in which the artist lives with his children, his wife and his father, himself a significant artist who died young. The second is imaginary and stylised, and remains hidden from the real world even though it is all around us. Besides the work of his father, Marius Kotrba, he draws strongly on the art of the Italian Renaissance. He exhibits in the Czech Republic and abroad, and his work is represented in many important collections.
