Štětinová Tereza

Tereza Štětinová (*1987) is a graduate of the Department of Photography at FAMU in Prague. Very early on, however, she moved from photography to sculpture. She is unafraid of any material: she explores the possibilities of marble, onyx and wood — from hornbeam through olive and ebony to lime — as well as fabrics, silk in particular, and other natural materials such as wool and feathers. Her work grows out of personal experience, but also out of myth, mysticism, religion, collective memory, literature and references to all kinds of ritual. Individual works matter to her, and so do entire installations within an exhibition; with them she always tells powerful, deeply felt stories. About water, about the forest, about motherhood, about pain and about joy. She often takes up the boundary between the transient and the lasting. Her sculptures and installations are held in many important collections. In 2025 she completed the memorial plaques to Jan Palach and Josef Toufar on the façade of the former Borůvka sanatorium in Prague 2.
