Absolon Tomáš

Tomáš Absolon (*1987) is a graduate of the drawing studio of Jiří Petrbok at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He also studied in the studio of the visiting professor Florian Pumhösl and under Jiří Černický at UMPRUM. He is a laureate of the Critics' Prize for Young Painting. He finds inspiration in the aesthetics of the poster, which has its own rules hidden in a play of symbols, signs and typography — something the artist examines in depth and then carries over into his own work. His large-format paintings are therefore often poised between abstraction and concrete elements of everyday life that cannot be deciphered at first glance. In his work he sets up a game, both with the brush and with the viewer and their point of view. He also takes up themes and influences from the thoroughly current cultural and theoretical background of computers and the internet. He exhibits in the Czech Republic and abroad — at the National Gallery Prague and MeetFactory, but also in Brussels, Rotterdam and Mallorca.
